Google just got the Pixel 11 bad news out the way

We’re just over two weeks away from Google announcing the Pixel 11 phones and the firm has decided to get the bad news out of the way in advance.

It will come as little surprise given how 2026 has gone so far in the tech industry, but Google has confirmed the Pixel 11 series will be getting a price rise.

Shakil Barkat, Vice President of Devices and Services, said “shielded our consumers from supply fluctuations for as long as possible,” but the “economics have fundamentally shifted and we’re not immune to that.” when speaking to 9to5Google.

The reason, of course, is the memory crisis which ironically has partly been brought about by AI services like Google’s own Gemini assistant.

“there’s never been an increase in memory prices like the world’s going through right now,” he said, confirming that Pixel devices would see “adjustments” which “will be rolled out dynamically to match supply realities.”

This will include the Pixel 11 series of phones (leaked in every colour already) and there’s even more bad news as it will also include “in-market Pixel phones” which presumably means the Pixel 10a will soon get more expensive, so grab one now if you’re thinking about buying.

Google won’t announce the Pixel 11 prices until the launch event on 12 August but leaked information suggests that price hikes of $100 are on the way. This will apply to all models taking the prices to the following starting points:

  • Pixel 11 – $899
  • Pixel 11 Pro – $1,099
  • Pixel 11 Pro XL – $1,299
  • Pixel 11 Pro Fold – $1,899

There’s good and bad news in here depending on what model you’re interested in. The regular Pixel 11 and smaller Pixel 11 Pro are set to get storage upgrades to 256GB, but a RAM downgrade for the Pro from 16- to 12GB.

Meanwhile, the other two are just getting straight price hikes.

Barkat was keen to point out that Google offers good value by “delivering premium experiences at an accessible value.” Customers can promotions, trade-in offers, and bundled perks like Google One, which are a “central part of how we make the Pixel lineup accessible.”

On the plus side, Barkat added the firm is “aggressively engineering its way through these challenges.” with a “dedicated effort” to make sure Android runs smoothly with less memory.
